Washington State Patrol title head 1998 ANNUAL REPORT

We, the Washington State Patrol, answer our citizens' call for public safety.
Image of 1998 report cover
In 1998, the State Patrol developed a strategic plan to guide decision making and organization planning for the next five years. In developing strategies to improve service to the citizens of the state, the strategic planning process involved agency employees, citizens, stakeholders from trucking and insurance industries, fire and rescue services, and the State Legislature.

As a result of this process, the State Patrol developed the new mission statement, shown above in the heading. New vision and value statements were also formulated to serve as guiding principles for all agency employees.

A new era is beginning in the State Patrol. The philosophy of involving the community in solving problems, continuously improving quality and measuring performance, together with long-range planning, will foster a more responsive and focused public safety program within the State Patrol. The year 1998 further demonstrates the agency's movement from a law enforcement agency toward an agency committed to improved public safety.
