Missing Children Poster Contest
The
Washington State Patrol partnered with the Office of Superintendent
of Public Instruction, the Governors office, and Senator McAuliffe’s
office to promote Missing Children Day on May 25, 2005. The event was
held at Lakes Elementary School in Lacey Washington to promote awareness
for missing children around Washington State. Students in the 5th grade
at Lakes Elementary School participated in a poster contest titled “Bringing
Our Children Home,” sponsored by the National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children. The winners of the contest are displayed below
along with the description of the poster (as the child wrote it) and

Zoesch was chosen as the poster winner in Mrs. Adam’s
class. Kyndra will be 11 years old in June. Here favorite things
to do are drawing, reading and dancing. She also loves animals and
has 6 pets at her house including 2 dogs, 3 cats and a turtle. Kyndra’s
poster shows a picture of the world with parents and children holding
hands around it. This represents all of the children in the world
that will be found, not just those in Washington State. These children
are reuniting with their families. Congratulations Kyndra. |
Lakishmi
Panjini was chosen as the poster winner in Mrs. Felix’s
class. Lakishmi is a student who is very helpful. She loves reading
and watching funny movies. She loves her family, including her older
sister. Lakishmi’s poster it titled “Hope is Falling
From the Sky,” it is meant to represent the emotions a family
goes through when someone is missing. In the beginning, a family
is happy and then when someone is missing they experience despair.
In the picture, the stars stand for hope, the heart means love,
and the rainbow means that everything will be back to normal soon,
and all the children who are missing today will return home safely
and unharmed tomorrow. Congratulations Lakishmi. |

| Danny
Gauthier was chosen as the poster winner in Mr. Pontius’s
class. Danny is 11 years old and has two brothers and one sister.
He enjoys skateboarding, biking, and blading. He also likes to play
basketball, baseball, soccer and football. Danny’s poster
is about an Eagle bringing a child home. The eagle stands for watching
over us, and the flag is a symbol of freedom and bravery. I drew
a tree house to show that children don’t hide and house shows
the home of the child. Finally the fireworks are a symbol of honesty
and family. Congratulations Danny! |
Kelcey
Wenger was chosen as the poster winner in Miss Weston’s
class. Kelcey is 10 years old. She comes from a big family with
4 brothers and two sisters. She likes to dance and spend time
with her family. She also enjoys shopping and spending time with
her friends. Kelcey’s poster shows a girl thinking about
how her mom would feel if she was missing later down the road.
The pole has a picture of a missing girl that shows how much people
care about her and want her to come home. The girl in the house
crying is supposed to show all missing children that people do
miss them a lot and want them to return safely. Congratulations
Kelcey.
