The Office of the State Fire Marshal, under contract with the Officeof the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), provides plan reviews and inspections to newly constructed, modified, and/or remodeled school facilities. Recongnizing the need to provide the highest level of fire and life safety of all public schools in the state, OSPI is funding this program so that there are no associated costs to the local jurisdictions.

The service provided includes plan review and inspection for public schools grades Kindergarten through 12th for fire and life safety in accordance with the International Codes.

Examination of plans include:

• Specifications for the construction of school buildings
• Specifications for the renovation of school buildings
• Installation of fire protection systems
• Inspection of such work in compliance with applicable codes and regulations

These services are being made available upon request to any and all local jurisdictions who may not have the ability/personnel to perform such reviews and/or inspections. All work will be coordinated with the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure coordination with other disciplines and that all local concerns are addressed.
