2008 IFSAC Accredited Courses
The
Washington State Fire Training Academy in North Bend, Washington,
provides IFSAC accredited training courses. These training courses
have been reviewed and approved by the Washington State Patrol Fire
Marshal’s Office. Course schedule and registration information is
provided below.

IFSAC
ACCREDITED COURSES:
| Fire Academy Recruit School (FRS-101) (FRS-102) |

The first 10-weeks of this program will present comprehensive training in all aspects of basic firefighting skills. This course is designed to prepare and train recruits to meet hiring skills established by fire departments as entry-level firefighters. Knowledge obtained from classroom instruction is transferred to fire-ground application during 100 hours of live fire training. This course meets all requirements for Firefighter 1 certification through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) process.
Departments desiring to attain the advanced level of Fire Fighter II for their personnel can opt for an additional one week of training immediately following the basic Recruit Academy. The 11-week course will meet all the requirements for Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 certification through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) process. Those individuals not selecting to complete the final week may not attend at a later date but will be required to attend the 40-hour Firefighter 2 course.
Recruits must pass the IFSAC Firefighter I and/or Firefighter 2 written and practical examinations to receive a certificate of graduation for the classes.
These courses are accredited through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) process and recruits receive a certificate from the Fire Training Academy upon successful demonstration of skills through an evaluation process. A copy of the International Fire Service Training Association (FSTA) Essential of Firefighting manual and workbook is provided for the recruits to assist them in this course of study. This is a demanding hands-on course that equips the recruit with the skills necessary to meet the challenges of being a firefighter. |

| Basic Firefighter Training Program (BFF-102) |

This 180-hour resident program is designed for volunteer firefighters who wish to be trained to the NFPA Fire Fighter 1 level. Firefighters will receive basic training in fire control, search and rescue, ladders, loss control, self-contained breathing apparatus, fire ground safety, tools, equipment and hazardous materials awareness. Successful completion of this course will result in IFSAC certification. Housing and meal services are available in an academy like setting over the weekends for the firefighters. |

Firefighter 1 Skill Sheets

The purpose of this 40-hour program is to identify emergency service personnel whom demonstrate competency in the performance requirements necessary to perform the duties of a firefighter beyond the Fire Fighter 1 level. Firefighters will receive training in IMS, fire inspection principles, company level fire investigation, incident reporting, live fire control, technical rescue and auto extrication based on the NFPA Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2002 edition. Successful completion of this course will result in IFSAC Fire Fighter 2 certification. |

This is a 32-hour course which uses an intensive instructional methodology program to prepare the participant for planning and developing all aspects of course curriculum. The course also includes needs analysis, task analysis, course goals and objectives, lesson plan development, instructional support materials and evaluation instruments.
This course meets the competency standards established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, Instructor 2. Upon successful completion the student will receive IFSAC Fire Instructor 2 certification. |

This 40-hour program teaches students the concepts of fire inspection. The course includes hazard recognition, report writing, fire service professionalism, water supply requirements, occupancy classification, method’s of egress, suppression systems and inspection procedures.

This 40-hour program is designed for those individual’s aspiring to receive International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) Fire Officer I certification. The focus of the five days is to review with candidates reference materials to meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1021 Fire Officer Qualifications 2003 Edition. Course materials will cover ways to effectively manage human resources; community/public relations; fire department organizations and administration, including budgets, reports, and planning; fire inspection, investigation, and public education, emergency operations, and safety. |
