In Washington State, a person or organization desiring a Fireworks Stand License must first obtain a license from the State Fire Marshal’s Office. This license must accompany the individual when they wish to apply for a local fireworks stand. The State Fire Marshal’s Office provides the license in accordance with state laws while the local jurisdictions can (and have) put together their own rules which must be complied with when obtaining a local permit.

In order to apply for a Fireworks Stand License, follow these four simple steps:

1. You can download the Application for Retail Fireworks License or you can contact our office at (360) 570-3134 to request the form be sent to you. A separate application is necessary for each stand, as the license is only valid for one stand.
2. After filling out the form, return it to the address indicated on the form along with the $40 annual licensing fee for each stand you are licensing. This application must be signed by the applicant and filled out COMPLETELY. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
3. Once received, a license will be sent to the address of the applicant along with a State Application for Retail Fireworks Stand Permit for each stand licensed. This generic permit form is provided should the local jurisdiction not have a permit form of their own.
4. The licensee takes their State Fireworks License to the local authority having jurisdiction along with the relevant permit form and information for review, approval, and issuance of the permit.
5. The tear-out wallet card is to be kept by the licensee and used to purchase fireworks from licensed fireworks wholesalers.

• The application must be filed with this office no later than May 1 of the year fireworks are to be sold to be applicable for the July holiday season. Such a license may also be applicable for the New Year’s celebration sales.
• The application must be filed with this office no later than November 1 of the year fireworks are to be sold to be applicable for the New Year’s celebration.
• This application MUST be signed by the individual who is making the application. If the licensee differs from the contact person, the contact person will be listed on the license as the individual who signed the application. The contact person must be an individual and they are responsible for the license.
• This license is valid from the date issued to January 31 of the subsequent year.
