The backbone of the Washington State Fire Services Mobiliztion Plan is the Washington State Defense Committee. Originally created in statute as a Board, it was changed to a Committee and is now a working group of the State Fire Protection Policy Board.

The Committee membership consists of:

• Two representatives from each of the nine Fire Defense Regions;
• The State Fire Marshal;
• Emergency Management Division;
• Department of Natural Resources: Resource Protection Division;

The committee meets once monthly at various locations throughout the state.  Their duties include:

• Reviews and updates the Mobilization Plan
• Establishes policies concerning fire service personnel
• Solicits membership for Incident Management Teams
• Assists in locating and tracking fire service resources 
• Recommends Rate Schedule for the Washington State Chiefs Association approval
• Approve/deny claims
• Appeals forwarded to the Chief of Washington State Patrol for final decision
