Talk to Children about Safety Issues
Here are some ways you can use these books with your children:

  • Talk with your child before, during and after reading a book together.
  • Make reading at home fun and warm.
  • Use the events in the story to talk about your family's safety rules or what your family would do in a similar situation. For instance, "Arthur's family has a fire escape plan, would you like to make one for our family?"
  • Ask your child to predict what might happen next in the story: "What do you think could happen to the little girl if she forgets to wear her bike helmet and falls off of her bike?"

Note: You will need Microsoft Word in order to view the above information. If you do not have MS Word, you will be need to download the Microsoft Word Viewer in order to view and print this information.
