Safety When Playing Outside

  • Check first with parents or the person in charge before you go anywhere or get into a car, even with someone you know.
  • Don't play alone or in isolated areas. Take a friend when you go places or play outside.
  • Empty houses and construction areas are not places to play.
  • Know your full name address and phone number.
  • Don't go with anyone you don't know well.
  • Learn to say NO, especially if you feel uncomfortable. Say no if someone tries to touch you or treat you in a way that makes you feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused.
  • Do not talk to or accept anything from a stranger.
  • Always check first with parents or a trusted adult before accepting anything from anyone, even from someone you know.
  • Obey traffic lights and use cross-walks when crossing the streets.
  • Walk with a friend. It's fun! You will have company and people may not bother you as easily if you have a friend with you.
  • Take the safest way to and from school. Let your parents know which way you go home, so they can find you.
  • Yell "Help!" if someone tries to grab you.

Personal Safety When At Home

  • Don't tell anyone you're home alone.
  • Don't open the door to anyone you don't know well.
  • Refuse to open the door if someone asks to use the telephone or anything else.
  • Do not talk to strangers on the phone, and do not tell unknown callers that you are home alone.
  • Tell an adult if you see anyone hanging around near your home. If your parents are not home, have the telephone number of a neighbor to call for help or DIAL 911 to call for the police.
  • Learn how to call for help (For emergencies call 911).
  • If you feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused talk to your parents or a trusted adult.

Internet Safety For Kids

  • Never give out personal information to anyone online (your home or school address, phone number, photographs of yourself, or anyone’s personal information).
  • Never agree to meet anyone that you encounter online and tell your parents or teacher if anyone asks to meet you.
  • Do not respond to messages that contain information or photographs that make you feel uncomfortable.
  • Do not open or accept e-mails, files, links, URLs, or other things from people you don't know or trust. Show them to a parent first.
  • Do not give out your password to anyone but your parents or guardian. Don’t even give them out to your best friend.
