Washington State Patrol title head District 3 Detachments

District 3 Headquarters - Union Gap

Driving Directions: From Interstate 82, take Exit 36 and go west on Valley Mall Boulevard. Turn left to go south on Rudkin Road. The office is two blocks south on the east side of Rudkin Road.

District 3 HeadquartersIn addition to District Commander David J. Karnitz, the Union Gap Headquarters office (pictured on the right) houses one lieutenant, three line detachments consisting of three sergeants and 20 troopers, the district's Communications Center, a detective sergeant, and three of the district's five Criminal Investigation Division detectives, a Deputy State Fire Marshal, and three Electronic Services Division technicians. There is a Vehicle Inspection lane to the rear of the complex directly behind the Department of Licensing.

The Yakima office of the Washington State Department of Licensing is directly behind the district headquarters. The Washington State Department of Transportation's South Central Region Headquarters is just south of the district headquarters on Rudkin Road.

The troopers who work out of the Yakima office are responsible to provide traffic law enforcement and assistance services on all the state and interstate highways in west Yakima County, including Interstate 82 from the Kittitas County line to milepost 50 at Zillah; State Route 12 to the summit of White Pass; and State Route 410 to the summit of Chinook Pass. They are also responsible for State Route 97 south to the Klickitat County line and State Route 24 east to the intersection of State Route 241. In addition, they are responsible to investigate all serious injury and fatality collisions on all Yakima County roads within this area.

The three detachments in Yakima are supervised by Sergeants Ed McAvoy, David Robinson, and Ethan Reavis.


 

Sunnyside Detachment

Driving Directions: The office is accessible from Eastbound Interstate 82 only.  Just east of the city of Grandview, proceed to milepost 76.  The office is on the south side of the freeway.

The seven troopers who work out of the Sunnyside office are responsible to provide traffic law enforcement and assistance services on all of the state and interstate highways in east Yakima and west Benton Counties. These include Interstate 82 from Zillah to milepost 88 east of Prosser, State Route 221 to Patterson, State Route 14 west to milepost 152, and State Route 24 to the Vernita Bridge.

The Sunnyside Detachment is supervised by Sergeant Tom Foster.

Driving Directions: South from Kennewick on State Route 395, follow the blue State Patrol signs to the office. North or east on Interstate 82, take Exit 113, and then right on Bofer Canyon Road (first right turn after exiting the interstate).

There are two detachments of eight troopers each assigned to the Kennewick office. They are responsible for providing law enforcement and assistance services on all state and interstate highways in Franklin County, Eastern Benton County, and Western Walla Walla county. This area includes Interstate 82 from Benton County to the Oregon border, State Route 395 from Kennewick to Adams County, State Route 240 to State Route 24, and the highways in and around the Tri-Cities. In Walla Walla County, they are responsible for State Route 12 to the Wallula Junction, State Route 730 to the Oregon border, and State Route 124 east to Eureka Road.

The detachments in Kennewick are supervised by Zach Elmore.

 

Walla Walla Detachment

Driving Directions: From SR 12, exit turning south onto Wilbur Street, turn right at Melrose, and left onto Wellington. Office is located at the corner of Wellington Avenue and Portland Avenue.

From State Route 125, turn east onto Rose Street. Continue east as Rose becomes Issacs Boulevard. Turn left onto Wellington Avenue. The office is one block north.

There are ten troopers assigned to the Walla Walla Detachment. Six of the ten troopers are responsible for all state highways in Walla Walla County east of the Wallula Junction on State Route 12, and east of Eureka Road on SR 124. The other four troopers are responsible for the state highways in Columbia, Garfield, and Asotin Counties. Four members of the detachment comprise the Washington State Patrol's Eastern Washington Bomb Squad.

The Walla Walla Detachment is supervised by Sergeant Wendell Prins.
