Project Description
Fifteen AmeriCorps members serving with Yakima Parks and Recreation will make a difference in our community by helping to combat juvenile crime, the school dropout rate, gang activity and drug related activities in Northeast and Southeast Yakima.  Serving at three elementary schools and the South East Community Center, AmeriCorps members will organize and supervise after school and summer youth activities.  As positive role models implementing a variety of recreational, educational and social activities with youth who are at risk, AmeriCorps members will change the world one child at a time.  The AmeriCorps members’ efforts won’t end there.  AmeriCorps members will also mobilize community volunteers, organize community service projects, coordinate neighborhood beautification projects, and implement the “Roadmap to Civic Engagement” curriculum with middle school youth.
