Project Description
The
Northwest Leadership Foundation through it's TEACH Tacoma
initiative has five partners to support three sites that will
work together to address the needs of Tacoma youth. TEACH
Tacoma is a strategic arm for groups interested in developing a
K-12 continuum to the issues surrounding academic need,
expulsions, long-term suspension and truancy.
Fifteen AmeriCorps will be equally divided between the
three sites. A partnership of Northwest Leadership Foundation,
World Vision, and Sound Youth Health counseling (formerly known
as Hilltop Health Ministries) was created to respond to the
needs of expelled/long-term suspended and truant young people is
called ProTeen SET, a blend of social care, mental
health counseling, academic encouragement, community engagement,
community significance and congruent understanding of one's
belief system. The other two partners are Peace
Community Center and Trinity Presbyterian Church
which provides Hilltop scholars, Hilltop Learning Center and 7th
Street Learning Center with individualized academic assistance,
enrichment and mentoring to students. There is also in-school
and after-school tutoring and mentoring to elementary and high
school students of the community.
