Project Description
Northwest
Leadership Foundation AmeriCorps members serve at three sites
working together to address the needs of Tacoma youth. Five
members address the issue of expelled, long-term suspended and
truant youth through the ProTeen program created by a
partnership of the Northwest Leadership Foundation, World
Vision, and Sound Youth Health counseling. This is a blend of
social care, mental health counseling, academic encouragement,
community engagement, and a congruent understanding of one's
belief system. The other two project sites are Peace Community
Center and Trinity Presbyterian Church which provide Hilltop
scholars, Hilltop Learning Center and the 7th Street
Learning Center with individualized academic assistance,
enrichment and mentoring services to students currently enrolled
in school.
