Project DescriptionFederal Way School District team picture
The Federal Way AmeriCorps team will address the need for literacy tutoring at every grade level while serving those students who are most disadvantaged.  Through the use of tested tutoring strategies and research-based curricula, members will be well-trained to meet the needs of individual students.  Twenty-six members will provide tutoring to over 390 students in twenty-three elementary schools, helping students to build strong reading skills to support their continued achievement in school.  Twenty-four members will serve over 1,400 students in seven middle schools and five high schools to provide tutoring interventions that will help students pass the WASL and graduate from high school.  Members are Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trained and develop Neighborhood Emergency Teams in the community which help citizens prepare to respond to disasters through specific and achievable tasks.  In addition, team members will participate in the Roadmap to Civic Engagement training as well as facilitate the civic engagement training to 50 Federal Way youth.
