When a business announces a mass layoff, the Employment Security Department will activate a Rapid Response team to coordinate resources, maximize options for recovery and minimize disruptions. Rapid Response sets the stage for re-employing workers with skills useful to other companies or developing retraining plans for workers who may need to participate in an approved vocational training program leading to jobs in demand. Affected workers receive assistance applying for extended weekly Unemployment Insurance benefits and other programs that pay for tuition and related educational expenses. Trade Adjustment Assistance can assist workers whose jobs have been lost
because of foreign trade or shifts in production. This program may
provide vocational training, income support, relocation assistance and a
health coverage tax credit to certified, trade-impacted workers.
