Module One: Orientation and Job Search Preparation

Your Job Search Destination: Finding The Business Who Is Looking For You.

The most difficult part of any job search may be taking the first step. In this interactive workshop you will gain an understanding of the changing workplace and learn about community resources that can help. You also will learn how to use job search information.
Overview:
Compares the job search process to a trip or journey. Involves establishing a travel agenda or plan, identifying the supplies and tools that may be needed, and using maps to find the correct route.

Helps job seekers understand the changing workplace, know tools and resources, identify job search needs (Job Search Readiness Inventory), explore work changes and discover changes that affect the job search process.


Module Two: Knowing Yourself

Self-knowledge: One Half Of A Job Match.

Job seekers are continually faced with change and choices. Learning "who you are" can affect how you plan, control, and shape your life. Participate in this interactive workshop to gain new and exciting information about yourself!
Overview:
Participant examines interests, learning styles, personality types, values, decision-making styles and evaluates ability to establish and commit to a goal. Combines all of above to design a more effective self-marketing plan and job search.


Module Three: Skills and Abilities Analysis

500 Skills You Didn’t Know You Had and What To Do With Them.

Skills and abilities are the building blocks of job success. Learn to identify, demonstrate and package with confidence the skills and personal qualities today’s employers desire.
Overview:
Participant uses computer software to identify transferable skills/personal qualities and the kind of occupations that require these skills. After completion of workshop participant will be able to package these skills/qualities that demonstrates meaning to businesses.


Module Four: The Job Market

Research & Informational Interviews: The Direct Route To Job Offers.

A successful job search is really finding an employer who is looking for someone like you. Learn how to research your labor market, develop networks, and conduct informational interviews.
Overview:
Participants determine fields of work most likely to need their skills, and identify businesses that traditionally hire people with these skills. They learn how to create an information network, plan and conduct informational interviews, have hands on practice with a variety of labor market resources. Use of computer software and Internet Web sites. After completion of workshop participant will increase understanding of how labor market works.


Module Five: The Effective Job Search

Hunting Down the Job You Want.

The changing workplace requires everyone to think differently about what makes a successful job search. Learn the most and least effective strategies for finding employment; conduct an actual job search on the Internet.
Overview:
Participants learn most/least effective methods for obtaining work, contacting/connecting with employers, design job search schedules, conduct job search via the Internet, oral communication skills, and practicing the one-minute commercial. After completion of workshop participants will have clearer strategies for conducting work searches and will know how to best present themselves to businesses.


Module Six: Applications and Resumes

Making the Match On Paper and Online.

Successful job seekers know what businesses want. Learn how to complete applications, develop resumes, and design cover letters that will attract businesses and lead to more interviews.
Overview:
Participants will learn how employers read applications/resumes, organization/communication skills in writing skills/abilities, and ability to produce professional resume without paying outside sources. After completion of workshop, participant will have a master "real world" job application and formal resume framework worksheet. Participants will also have access to a PC and to appropriate software through the WorkSource resource room.


Module Seven: Interviewing

Making the Match In Person and On the Phone

Being able to handle an employment interview is a necessity for any job seeker. Learn helpful interviewing tips, and practice your interviewing skills in a supportive realistic environment.
Overview:
Participants explore nature and structure of an interview, learn how employers approach the interview and practice responding to frequently asked and difficult questions. Practicing interviewing skills in a supportive environment and receiving helpful feedback is a major part of this workshop.
