Job Search & Placement Assistance

Upon release, people with conviction histories are linked to local WorkSource Offices.

Employment Re-Entry Classes

Workforce Readiness is a 12-hour job readiness curriculum modified for Department of Corrections institutions to provide inmates with basic pre-employment competencies and link them to the WorkSource in their community of release.  This workshop is a modification of the Job Hunter curriculum developed by the Employment Security Department. Getting It Right is a 60-hour journaling curriculum that utilizes 5 modules to help participants transition into the community and responsible thinking.  Getting it Right is produced by The Change Companies®.

Reentry Resource Providers

Reentry Resource Providers specialize in delivering employment re-entry services to people with conviction histories in their community. The comprehensive services include employment development plans (EDP), job seeking skills instruction, education and training programs, job referral and placement, support service recommendations and recruitment and screening for employers.  These providers can be found listed in the Services regions where they are located.

Partnering for Successful Re-Entry

OES offers training for community based organizations, state agencies, employers, WorkSource staff and affiliates to develop expertise in barriers for people with conviction histories that may inhibit successful community and employment re-entry.

Washington State Bonding Program

Individual fidelity bonds are available for at-risk applicants who are denied coverage by commercial carriers because of a record of arrest, conviction or imprisonment, history of alcohol or drug abuse, poor credit, lack of employment history, or dishonorable military discharge.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit

Employers hiring people with conviction histories who have been convicted or released from prison with one year of the date of hire, and are a member of a low-income family, qualify for up to $2,400 tax credit off bottom-line end of year business taxes.

Carl Perkin's Administration

Federal grant funds are available as competitive proposals to subcontract with a broad range of service providers to deliver vocational education programs, services and activities to incarcerated individuals.

Employment Re-Entry Guide

The Employment Re-Entry Guide addresses the multiple and unique barriers faced by job seekers with a criminal history. The guide is designed to be used as a self paced guide booklet, or can be facilitated in a small group setting. To request a copy contact:
