NATIONAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES
National career development guidelines help students, teachers and counselors identify tasks and competencies needed at each level of education and lifetime developmental growth. These competencies fall into the three areas of self-knowledge, exploration of educational and occupational information and career planning:
Self-Knowledge
- understanding the influence of a positive self-concept;
- having skills for positive interaction with others;
- understanding the impact of personal growth and development.
Exploration of educational and occupational information
- understanding the relationship between educational achievement, career, and life;
- understanding the need for positive learning and work attitudes;
- having skills to locate, evaluate, and interpret career information;
- having skills to seek obtain, maintain and change jobs;
- understanding how societal needs and functions influence the nature and structure of work.
Career Planning
- having skills to make decisions;
- understand the interrelationships of life roles;
- understand the changing nature of male/female roles;
- having skills in career planning.
