High Growth & Delclining Occupations

About High Growth and Declining Occupations

Updated annually, these tables offer a "rank" style look at occupations that are projected to be in either high growth or decline over a two-year period in Washington and each of it’s twelve Workforce Development Areas (WDAs).

    Washington State
Benton-Franklin Eastern Washington North Central
Northwest Olympic Consortium Pacific Mountain
Pierce County Seattle-King County Snohomish County
Spokane Southwest Washington Tri-County

Produced in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, occupational employment projections are based on historical industry employment data from Washington employers and occupational staffing patterns produced by the Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) survey. The estimates presented here are the most current available.

Explanations:
Data not published are suppressed due to confidentiality and/or failure to meet minimum statistical reliability thresholds. Suppressed values are rolled up into aggregated occupations or "All other occupations".

  • The occupational projections are based on survey data and industry employment estimates.  As a result, some degree of error is inherent in all numbers. The smaller the base year number, the large the possible error range.
  • Only the occupations with 50 or more estimated jobs in the base year are included in this listing. Those with less than 50 jobs are rolled-up to "All other occupations."
  • Due to methodology used, totals for local areas may not add up to state totals.

  • Because of code changes, from OES to SOC, this set of occupational estimates and projections are not directly comparable with previously published numbers.
