H-2A Program Information Current H-2A job openings available in Washington State
What is the H-2A program?
The federal H-2A program allows agricultural employers who anticipate a labor shortage to apply for permission to hire foreign workers temporarily. Employers must prove that there are not enough domestic workers available and that the wages and working conditions of U.S. workers won't be harmed by importing foreign workers.

Are these job openings available to U.S. workers?
Yes. Agricultural employers must give preferential hiring status to U.S workers who are qualified, available, able and willing to perform the job.

What type of jobs are these?
The jobs are temporary and are usually for pruning fruit trees, picking fruit, thinning apples or other pre- and post- harvest activities.

Where are these jobs located?
Most of the Washington jobs are located in the Yakima, Grant, Douglas, Chelan, and Okanogan counties. There are some jobs available in other counties, but not as many.

What is the duration of the jobs?
The duration of the job varies by employer. Please contact your local WorkSource office for information on specific H-2A jobs.

Where do I apply for these jobs?
Contact your local WorkSource office to get information on H-2A jobs.

How much will I be paid if I am hired?
For the H-2A program the employer must offer the highest of the adverse effect wage rate (AEWR), state minimum wage, federal minimum wage or the prevailing wage rate. If the employer pays by piece rate, the rate must equal what is commonly paid in the area of employment.

Are there any other benefits of the job?
Workers who are hired may be eligible for transportation assistance if they traveled beyond the commuting area. Housing may also be provided to those who are unable to travel back to their permanent address. Contact your local WorkSource office for information on these and other benefits.

What if I am not hired?
Employers must hire workers who are qualified, available, able and willing to perform the job. If you met these requirements, but were not hired, please contact your local WorkSource office.
