What is Trade Adjustment Assistance? |
|
Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) assists workers who are unemployed as a result of increased imports from, or shifts in production to, foreign countries. The goal of the Trade Act programs is to help trade-affected workers return to suitable employment as quickly as possible.
TAA-certified workers may access services including
job-search allowances,
relocation allowances,
retraining
and the Federal
Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) program. TAA participants
who require retraining in order to obtain suitable employment may receive occupational training or on-the-job training if determined eligible.

| What is Trade Readjustment Allowance? |
|
Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA) are income benefits, equivalent to your weekly state unemployment insurance (UI) benefits. You may be eligible to receive TRA benefits if you are enrolled in training or are actively searching for work. TRA benefits are not paid until you have exhausted all of your unemployment insurance (UI) benefits.

What is Health Coverage Tax Credit Gap Assistance?
|

The Health Coverage Tax Credit (HCTC) Gap Grant
assistance is available through the Washington State
Employment Security Department to help make health care
more affordable by assisting qualified TAA participants
maintain their health insurance. The HCTC Gap Grant is
meant to assist eligible TAA participants by paying 65%
of the monthly amount of the medical insurance premium
(for up to three months) for qualified health insurance
plans during the IRS/HCTC registration processing time,
which is 6 to 8 weeks. Gap payment assistance is
available in the form of advanced or reimbursement
payment. Please contact your local
Trade Act representative for assistance
concerning eligibility and enrollment requirements.

Reemployment or Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance Programs |
|
Reemployment or Alternative Trade Adjustment Assistance (RTAA/ATAA) allows workers 50 years of age or older who find reemployment after their trade affected layoff and earn less per year in full time employment, the option to choose to receive a wage subsidy of 50% of the difference between their new salary and old salary up to a maximum of $12,000 for RTAA and $10,000 for ATAA.

Visit the Department of Labor website.
Contact your Trade Act Service Provider at your local
WorkSource Center to thoroughly explain the TAA program if you have questions or concerns about any aspect of the benefits.

| What other services are available to help Dislocated Workers? |
|
You may qualify for other
employment and training services. Services range from
financial support to help finding a job or retraining for a new
career.
Review the lists of
services. You may or may not qualify. Funding may
be limited, depending on where you live and the time of year you
apply. Follow-up by phone or in person at your local
WorkSource Center to learn more or apply. You’ll find
